Indian Railways is gearing up to launch its first hydrogen-powered train by December 2024. This ambitious project marks India's entry into a select group of countries, including Germany, France, Sweden, and China, that are already utilising hydrogen fuel cell technology in their rail networks.

Pilot Project Paves the Way

Indian Railways has awarded a pilot project for retrofitting existing Diesel Electric Multiple Unit (DEMU) trains with hydrogen fuel cells. This initiative includes developing the necessary ground infrastructure to support hydrogen-powered operations.
