Dharavi Redevelopment Project Gets Boost
The Maharashtra cabinet has given a significant push to the long-awaited Dharavi Redevelopment Project by approving the acquisition of 255.9 acres of salt pan land in Mumbai. This land will be used to create affordable housing schemes for various sections of the population.
Land Acquisition for Affordable Housing
The state government previously requested the Central government to transfer the salt pan land on a 99-year lease for the Dharavi Redevelopment Project. This land, located between Kanjurmarg, Mulund, and Bhandup, will be managed by the lead developer spearheading the project.
- Rental Housing for Dharavi Residents: A crucial aspect of the project involves creating rental housing for ineligible slum dwellers from Dharavi. Estimates suggest around 3.5 to four lakh people residing in mezzanine and upper floors of slum structures will be eligible for this program.
