Mumbai, India (October 17, 2024): The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has implemented a five to 10 per cent water cut across Mumbai from October 17 to October 18 due to a critical malfunction in a pipeline in Thane district.

Pipeline Failure Disrupts Water Supply

A vital 900-mm valve on the Vaitarna pipeline at Tarali in Thane district has failed, necessitating the partial shutdown of the water supply system. The BMC is working diligently to repair the damaged valve, but the process is expected to take approximately 48 hours.


Impact on Water Treatment Plant and City

The malfunction has significantly reduced the water supply to the Bhandup Water Treatment Plant, which is responsible for supplying water to Greater Mumbai.
